Waterstone has an immediate opening for entry-level and mid-level to senior-level Environmental Engineer, Geologist, or Scientist on our team of  professionals located in Anaheim, California. Waterstone’s company culture is built on high level consulting; excellent service; teamwork; and technical collaboration to solve challenging environmental problems. The position requires participating on a team where good project management and excellent technical skills are required for site assessment, investigation, remediation, regulatory compliance, and litigation support projects. We are also looking for a person that is willing and able to assist in the development of younger and less experienced technical staff.

Mid-Level to Senior-Level Environmental Engineer, Geologist or Scientist

Qualifications

  •  BS in geology, hydrogeology, engineering, environmental science or related environmental discipline. MS is preferred.

  • 5 to 15 years of experience in the environmental industry.

  • California State Professional Registration preferred.

  • Outstanding knowledge of Microsoft Office, Excel; GIS and/or CAD software a bonus.

  • Physical fit and the ability to safely lift at least 40 pounds.

  • Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.

  • 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification.

  • Local candidates preferred.

  • Due to the nature of work, U.S. Citizenship is required.

  • Ability to multi-task, maintain flexibility, and travel to California located jobs .

  • Ability and willingness to support the technical growth of project/staff level professionals based on direct hands-on interactions.

  • Excellent written/verbal communication and organization/analytical skills; experience recording/writing detailed technical data and reports.

Responsibilities

Project Management:

  • Interact with clients and regulatory agencies.

  • Conduct regulatory negotiations regarding cleanup levels, mitigation measures and use restrictions.

  • Prepare proposals and cost estimates.

  • Conduct marketing activities including attending conferences and industry events, and perform other business development activities to help grow our client base.

  • Prepare individually or as a team project write-ups and/or industry updates on relevant topics for inclusion on company website, social media platforms and for mass email distribution.

  • Manage multiple project schedules and competing deadlines.

  • Manage projects including key responsibilities for scheduling and coordination of project resources to meet client and organizational needs.

  • Ensure that individual task schedules, budgets, and client invoicing are performed in accordance with Company standards and client requirements to complete project work.

  • Work independently and as part of a team with demonstrated project management skills, and solid organizational and time management skills.

  • Provide detail-oriented solutions, results-oriented aptitude, and hands-on troubleshooting/problem-solving skills.

 

Technical Data Review and Report Preparation:

  • Coordinate and provide quality control for data collection and review of project results, including the reduction of field data to evaluate and determine future client needs and project requirements with the ability to evaluate/interpret complex analytical data.

  • Interpret data, develop, and finalize a report for final review that appropriately documents findings and conclusions and proposes appropriate recommendations.  

 

Remediation

  • Prepare and perform conceptual and detailed remedial design work.

  • Prepare future remedial measures selection and costing.

 

Litigation Support

  • Read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.

  • Prepare technical summaries and presentations on regulatory concepts, trends, and emerging issues.

 

Compliance and Permitting

  • Prepare environmental compliance work plans, permits, and reports for air quality, hazardous waste, spill prevention, and storm water.

  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state and local regulations.

Entry-Level Environmental Engineer, Geologist or Scientist

Qualifications

  • BS in geology, hydrogeology, engineering, environmental science or related environmental discipline. MS is preferred.

  • Recent graduate to 2 years of experience. No professional experience is necessary, but internships or previous relevant experience is desirable

  • Willingness/interest in field assignments; ability to perform field work standing or walking for full field days.

  • Strong commitment to safety, including following established Health and Safety protocols.

  • Effective written/verbal communication and organization/analytical skills; experience recording/writing detailed technical data and reports a plus.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Detail-oriented with solutions and results-oriented aptitude and hands-on troubleshooting/problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to multi-task, maintain flexibility, travel, and work independently with minimal supervision.

  • Ability to lift at least 40 pounds.

  • Valid driver’s license and a good driving record.

  • 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification a plus.

  • GIT or EIT certification preferred.

  • Local candidates preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Your time will generally include a mix of field time and office hours. Under the direction of Project Managers, you will be responsible for assigned project activities through application of engineering or scientific principles and techniques, conducting observations or sampling in the field as well as assisting in the completion of reports and other project work. Your assignments could span any of our services areas allowing you to gain experience in different areas of engineering.

  • Conduct field work, including soil, sediment, groundwater, surface water, soil vapor, and indoor air sampling, aquifer testing, drilling oversight and soil logging, soil boring and monitoring well installation, well development, purging and sampling, remedial and wastewater treatment pilot tests, and remedial system operation and maintenance.

  • Assist in groundwater and soil vapor extraction system performance monitoring.

  • Perform Phase I and II environmental assessments to support property transfer transactions

  • Compile and evaluate data and assist in report preparation.

  • Prepare environmental compliance work plans, permits, and reports for air quality, hazardous waste, spill prevention, and storm water.

  • Assist in ensuring compliance with all federal, state and local regulations.

  • Work within quality/budget/schedule expectations and scope-specific assignments.

  • Communicate/coordinate with subcontractors, regulatory agents, tenants, and clients during field activities and independently perform subcontractor oversight.

  • Develop project documents in conjunction with project team such as Health and Safety plans (HASPs), Workplans, and Sampling Summary Reports

  • Complete field work in accordance with safety requirements and site-specific safety plans at project sites including site visits, environmental sampling, and oversight of subcontractors

  • Tabulate, manage, and evaluate environmental data including soil, soil gas, and groundwater sample results under the supervision of an experienced engineer

  • Use computer software (Excel, Microsoft Word, Adobe Acrobat, PowerPoint) as a tool for data evaluation, data presentation, and report writing.

  • Independently perform research tasks with input from technical experts.
